The Little Screw
Jul 08, 2015
A couple of weeks ago I took my car in to my neighborhood mechanic, Hands Automotive, to have my car's air conditioning recharged. Turns out that not only did my A/C need refrigerant, but my O-rings and Schrader valves needed replacing. (You know what I'm talking about.)
The job was done right, at a fair price. Here's the real story, though:
My gearshift handle was loose. The little 3/8" screw the holds it on fell out a long time ago. It didn't affect the operation of the car at all, it just wiggled when I shifted.
When I picked up my fixed A/C car, I noticed (after driving for a few minutes) that my shift handle no longer wiggled. There was a new little screw where the other little screw had fallen out.
Based on that, they're going to be my mechanic for years to come. They went the extra 3/8", and it made a mile of difference.
I like the "over deliver" business model, and do the same with my corporate hypnosis shows. Since I'm one of the 4 or 5 real stand-up comedians who also does a comedy hypnosis show, I am able to write custom jokes and routines for my corporate clients. For about the same fee as most other hypnotists charge for their generic hypnosis show , my corporate event clients get customized material, at no extra charge. And to them, it makes all the difference.
No matter what business you're in, go that extra 3/8ths of an inch. To your customer, it will seem like a mile.
