Hypnotist for Post Prom/Grad Nights - What to Look For

Jan 27, 2017

When hiring a hypnotist for your high school post prom or grad night. There's a lot more to consider besides cost!

I'm still getting inquiries for high school post prom and graduation parties. A lot of the inquiries come from online booking sites, which I believe can mislead committees to believe that cost is the most important factor when hiring a hypnotist or other entertainer for the students.

Let's just stick to hypnotists for the moment, though. What should you look for when hiring a hypnotist for your event?

For a lot of planning committees, cost is the deciding factor. And... with limited budgets, understandable. Now most things a committee is buying or hiring for the night are pretty much commodities. Pizza and bottles of water are pretty much the same, so seeking the lowest price probably won't make much difference.

But hiring a hypnotist is an entirely different thing. This person, at least temporarily, is controlling a portion of the students' minds. The number one thing to look for then, and probably one of the hardest to gauge, is maturity.

Most of the hypnotists you'll find on the online sites are often inexperienced. Most have taken a "stage hypnosis" class, have no hypnotherapy training and, just to be on stage, will work for a fraction of the experienced and mature hypnotists. Some of them will do hypnosis skits that, because of the immaturity of the hypnotist, will be hysterical to the high school audience, but deemed completely inappropriate by the adult chaperones. In fact, inappropriate skits are the number one complaint I hear from prospective clients. "Last year's hypnotist did so and so, the kids laughed but the parents were appalled!"

So, this year, when hiring a hypnotist for your event try to get a feel for the maturity of the person you're about to hire. Don't be fooled by a cheap price, it may reflect a new hypnotist and an inappropriate show!
