Entertainers Behaving Badly

Aug 18, 2016

Yesterday I got an email from a prospective client about entertaining at a gala for a non-profit organization. I don't know yet if I'll be hired because there are still committee meetings and things to be discussed.

One of the things committee will be discussing are ways to prevent last year's entertainment debacle.

The non-profit hired a musical comedy act. The act showed up 20 minutes after guests arrived and still had to set up their show (something that should have been done earlier). I'm guessing that was annoying for the guests, as this particular act had to load in and set up a lot of equipment. Personally, I like to be all set up and ready to go at least an hour before guests begin to arrive.

To make matters worse (much worse) the entertainers were drinking both before and during the show and were "extremely intoxicated." (I'll have a drink, but after the show.) They also kept the tips, which were to be donated to the non-profit.

As if that wasn't enough, two days after the show the entertainers debited the non-profit's account for $1000.00, even though they'd already been paid in full. Apparently they also embezzled money from other organizations, and the non-profit is now engaged in legal proceedings.

I'm not sure what could have been done in advance to prevent these problems, but I do know one thing; this kind of behavior hurts everyone in the entertainment business.

Kids, behave yourselves!
